Accessibility

Bump to Bed should be easy to use for every parent and carer, whatever device you have and however you use it. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

What we do

  • Pages are designed to work with a keyboard, a screen reader or a switch device.
  • Text and controls meet AA colour contrast in every theme.
  • You can change the story text size, and the layout reflows when you zoom in.
  • We use Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface designed for low-vision readers.
  • Animations are switched off if your device asks for reduced motion.
  • Images in stories have text descriptions.
  • Stories can be read without JavaScript. The reading settings, story filters, favourites and offline saving need it.

How we check

Every change is tested automatically with axe, an accessibility testing tool, on phone and desktop screen sizes and in every theme. Automated tools can’t catch everything, so we also review the site by hand.
