Bump to Bed is run by Sam and Erin, two parents-to-be in the UK. We built it to be private: there are no accounts, no sign-ups, no cookies and no ads. This page explains the little we do collect and what stays on your own device.
The short version
- We don’t ask for your name, email address or anything about you or your baby.
- Your favourites, reading history and settings are saved in your browser, on your device. We never see them.
- We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which doesn’t use cookies and can’t tell us who you are.
- We don’t sell, share or rent data to anyone, and we never show ads.
What stays on your device
Some features remember things for you. They’re saved in your browser’s storage (called local storage), not on our servers, and are never sent to us:
- your favourite stories, lullabies and rhymes
- the pages you’ve read recently, and how many times you’ve read each one
- your theme and text size
- pages you’ve saved to read offline, kept in your browser’s cache by our service worker
To remove them, clear this site’s data in your browser settings. Using a private or incognito window means none of it is kept after you close it.
When you tap Share, your phone’s own share menu opens, or the link is copied. We don’t see what you share or who you share it with.
What we collect
We use two tools from Vercel, the company that hosts the site, to see how it’s used and keep it fast.
Vercel Web Analytics records each page view: the page, the site you came from, your rough location (country and city), and your type of device, browser and operating system. It doesn’t use cookies or store anything on your device. Vercel tells visits apart with a code made from your request, which it throws away after 24 hours, so we only ever see totals, like how many people read a story this week. Read how Vercel Web Analytics handles data.
Vercel Speed Insights measures how quickly pages load, along with your country, connection speed, and type of device and browser. It isn’t linked to you or your IP address. Read how Vercel Speed Insights handles data.
Like any website host, Vercel also handles your IP address to send you the pages and protect the site from attacks. Vercel is based in the United States, and this is covered by Vercel’s privacy notice.
Our fonts, pictures and sounds all come from our own site, so no other companies are involved when you visit.
Why we collect it
We use these statistics to see which stories parents enjoy, so we can write more like them, and to fix pages that are slow or broken. Under UK data protection law, our reason (the “lawful basis”) is our legitimate interest in running and improving a free site. As the statistics are anonymous and only counted in totals, we think this has very little effect on your privacy.
If you’d rather not be counted at all, an ad or tracker blocker in your browser will stop the analytics. Everything on the site still works.
Children
Bump to Bed is for parents and carers to use, not for children to use alone. We don’t collect information about children, or about anyone, beyond the anonymous statistics above.
Your rights
UK data protection law gives you the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. Because we don’t collect your name, contact details or anything linked to you, we normally hold nothing we could find for you. Your saved favourites and history are on your device, so you can delete them yourself at any time.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect, we’ll update this page and the date at the top first. We won’t add accounts, ads or tracking without saying so here.
