Little Star’s Journey Home

High in the sky where the night is deep blue, A little star twinkled, the way little stars do. She danced and she spun and she shimmered so bright, A tiny gold sparkle in the velvet of night.

Below her the earth lay quiet and still, Asleep in the valley, asleep on the hill. “Hello there,” she whispered. “Goodnight, sleepy town. I wonder… I wonder… what if I float down?”

So down floated Star, so slowly, so slow, Past mountains asleep in their blankets of snow. “Goodnight, mountains,” she whispered. They didn’t reply. They were dreaming of clouds as she drifted on by.

Down floated Star, past the rivers that flow, Humming their lullabies, soft and so low. “Goodnight, rivers,” she whispered. They murmured, “Goodnight,” And rocked her along on their ripples of light.

Down floated Star, past the forests so deep, Where the owls and the foxes were curling to sleep. “Goodnight, forest,” she whispered. The tall trees sighed, And swayed her along on the breeze, side to side.

“I’m looking,” said Star, “for the cosiest place, A warm little corner, a safe little space, Somewhere to rest and somewhere to stay, Somewhere to shine at the end of the day.”

She floated on down, past the roofs and the trees, Past chimneys and gardens, and over the leaves, Till she found, tucked away from the cold and the snow, A cosy small place with a warm, gentle glow.

It was you. It was here. It was snuggled up tight. It was cosy and warm and just perfectly right. “Oh,” whispered Star, “this is where I should be. This is the home that was waiting for me.”

So she curled herself up, small and round as a pearl, And she sent out her love to her own little world. One soft little shimmer, so gentle, so deep… And then little Star drifted softly to sleep.

Shimmer and glimmer, so quiet, so slow. Goodnight, little star.
